Founded in 2015 by two former Amazon engineers, Off The Record started by revolutionizing how people fight traffic tickets — and is now expanding to cover all consumer legal needs. It all started with a road trip gone wrong. Alex Guirguis and Mark Mikhail — two engineers who helped build Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) — were driving back to Seattle from a camping trip at Crater Lake, Oregon, when all four cars in their group got traffic tickets. Finding the right lawyer was confusing, expensive, and frustrating.
So they built something better.
Most Americans think about hiring a lawyer multiple times a year and never do anything about it. They worry about cost, they don't know where to start, and they assume lawyers will overcharge them. Meanwhile, 80% of Americans can't afford a lawyer at all — even when they desperately need one.
We're here to fix that.
